Ich habe das Gefühl, zu dem neuen "Hagen" Film könnte man eine Menge gute Fanfictions machen....ich meine... Siegfried und Hagens gegenseitiges Misstrauen, dann der wachsende Respekt...die Szene nackt im Wasser...der Betrug....Hagen, der sich am sterbenden Siegfried festklammert...ich sehe das Potential, meine Leute.

so wild Filme zu gucken die in der Stadt spielen die man in und auswendig kann.. Like, die straße kommt nicht da raus und das Rathaus ist persönlich mit zu viel behördentrauma verbunden als jetzt als Polizeirevier durchzugehen besties

A couple of years ago, I discovered an old German movie titled Das Millionenspiel (EN: The Millions Game), which is an adaptation of a short story by American author Robert Sheckley titled "The Prize of Peril". The plot is as such: a man named Bernhard Lotz has enrolled in a TV game show where the objective is to avoid getting killed by a group of hunters. If he can survive for a whole week without quitting or getting killed, he wins a prize of 1 million German Marks. So yeah...essentially The Running Man 17 years before that movie came out. Up until recently, I couldn't find a pressing with English subtitles, but I found one here, so enjoy!

TRIVIA: Upon its first airing, people mistook the movie for an actual game show and called the number in the movie demanding to become a part of the game.

Leute leute leute, so ne deutsche Goldgrube hab ich gefunden. Ich wusste nicht, dass Bayern solche Krimikomödien rausballert als gäb's kein Ende.

Kurz: Eberhoferkrimi, basierend auf der Buchreihe von Rita Falk

Es gibt bisher 9 Filme, angefangen mit dem Titel Dampfnudelblues. Ich bin erst beim 4. und ist gutes Zeugs.

Wer's nicht kennt (wahrscheinlich nur ich, die dachte es gäbe nur den 1. Film, nicht ein ganzes Universum mit Film und Buch):

Essen im Titel, viel Bier (ist ja Bayern), Leichen (ist ja Krimi), recht chiller schießfreudiger Polizist, Oma mit dem titelgebenden guten Essen, Vater mit Vorliebe für Musik und Gras, paar Kumpels die beiseite stehen (oder nicht, je nach Sauflevel), der Kreisverkehr (glaubt mir, der ist wichtig) und was da für andere Teufel im Landkreis Landshut ihr Unwesen treiben (und nee, gibt's keine Teufel, nur die paar Leichen)

Today: Cocoon (2020)

Yeah, not really my kind of story, but it sure made some memorable points.

Summer 2018. Berlin is suffering under a heatwave. 14-year-old Nora’s life is changing, as she navigates everyday relationships, starts menstruating and discovers her sexuality. 

A low budget coming of age story set in Berlin, I feel like this movie really captured well what it’s like to be a teenager, when everything in your life seems so big and important. The title is fitting, as, instead of a complete story with a conclusion, this “just” captures a moment of transformation in Nora’s life.

I watched this in summer 2020, when I was in Köln for a weekend. It was a very memorable experience, as 1) small village girl in a big city, and 2) summer 2020, so the whole evening had this beautifully forbidden in-between feel to it. It was a small cinema, so that was nice, too. I cried during the Pride scene. None of this has any significance in regard to the movie itself, but it matters to me, so I’m telling you about it.

How melancholy to reflect that Die Deutsche Kinemathek – the wonderful cinema museum in Berlin – is closing its doors permanently on 31 October 2024. It was a sleek and deluxe minimalist venue devoted to the history of German cinema, with an entire floor devoted to the personal archives of ultimate German diva Marlene Dietrich (following her death in 1992, her family bestowed Dietrich’s stage and screen costumes, personal correspondence, photos, home movies, props, etc.). Luckily, I got to visit the museum several times over the years – and it always lulled me into a trance of pleasure! According to its website, they are relocating to a temporary venue (which will open to the public later in 2025) while a permanent home is being constructed and “collections such as the Photo Archive, Document Archive, the Personal Papers and Company Archives and parts of the Marlene Dietrich Archive will still be accessible at our temporary base.” So, it’s not as apocalyptic as I initially feared when I read the news. Anyway, the last time I visited Die Deutsche Kinemathek (in 2011) I snatched this photo of the death mask of German filmmaker F W Murnau (1888 – 1931), one of the great poets and visionaries of early cinema (perhaps most famous for eerie horror masterpiece Nosferatu (1922)). His friend Greta Garbo commissioned the “"totenmaske” after Murnau died in a car crash (Kenneth Anger writes about the accident in ghoulish detail in his book Hollywood Babylon; legend has it Murnau's 14-year-old Filipino houseboy was driving). Garbo reportedly kept the souvenir on her desk for years. How morbid!
